The is the un-official CoDZone Guide to Knifing.
I no longer play Call Of Duty, so this guide will no longer be updated
.
Hey guys! My name is Lemon... Well, not really... But you get it. I consider myself a semi-pro at knifing, so i think i have the knowledge to write a guide.
UNDERSTAND MY EDITING
BLUE = Tier ONE Perks (Eg: Marathon)
RED = Tier TWO Perks (Eg: Lightweight)
GREEN/YELLOW = Tier THREE Perks (Eg: Ninja)
TEAL = Primary Weapons
PURPLE = Secondary Weapons
LIGHT BLUE = Throwing Knife
SECTION ONE: Why make a guide?
You're probably wondering... Why the hell would i make a guide to something so easy as... Knifing. Well, many of you slap on the deadly combo of Marathon, Lightweight, and Commando, and run around like Roadrunner with a knife. While this is very fun, and can help let off steam, it's not tactical, and can lead to a decrease in your Kill/Death ratio. All of this crap i'm saying leads to the real reason i made this guide... Knifing is FUN, but requires SKILL. And i'm here to tell you some tips on how to have FUN, and get loads of kills by having FUN.
SECTION TWO: Your Class
SUB-SECTION 1: PERKS
Your class... Hmmm.. Why don't we slap on Commando? =D
NO
If you are going to try knifing, DO NOT... and i REPEAT... DOOO NOT... Jump right into Commando. If you start using commando when trying to knife only, you will become to confortable with commando, and if you ever take it off, you will die because you couldn't knife the guy acrost the map. (How's that for a run on sentance?) Do you see what i'm saying? You see a guy... and you think you can knife him... but you can't and he guns you down.
So, when you want to start knifing, or just try it.... You should slap on Marathon, Lightweight, and Ninja. Marathon and Lightweight is obvious... But let me explain Ninja.
Until you get ninja pro, Ninja won't help you... much. Ninja hides you from those baby moniters... Or noob sensors, as i call them. The blasted Heartbeat sensor is very low for even the worst of noobs. But ninja can hide your ass from the sensors. But where ninja shines... is when you get the Pro version. Ninja pro requires 50 Close Quarter kills. Wich means, in a very easy 50 knives, you get Ninja Pro. Ninja Pro lets you walk around like a... well... Ninja! Statistically speaking, it reduces all noise your actually character makes by 75%. So you generate 25% of the noise you did. So ontop of being imune to noob sensors, you also are protected against the hardcore players that have headsets. Now, a person that plays at very high volumes might be able to hear you.
Wow... That was a large talk about one perk... Lets move on =D
So, what about the second tier (red) of perks? Lightwieght is very popular with the knifing people, because we need to get places. BUT... Cold-Blooded is also very useful. Knifers don't shoot (for the most part, check section 4), so what if the enemy gets a UAV, AC130, Chopper Gunner, or all the other machines MW2 offers? You're screwed... But Cold-Blooded (Calling it CB from now on) is the solution. CB Pro is a perfect perk. CB Pro will disable the red text that appears over your characters head when an enamies cross-heir looms over you. With the pro version, you could hide in a bush with out being noticed.
SUB-SECTION 2: WEAPONS and EQUIPMENT
Tell me... What's your primary Weapon? Probably whatever you feel like... But did you know, your primary weapon matters when you knife? No? You didn't know that? Well yes... it does. When you use a LMG, you have Heavy clothing. When you use an SMG/AR you have urban clothing. And when you use Sniper Rifles, you wear Ghillie suits. So in conclusion, you should change your primary weapon on your knifing class according to what map you are going to play on. Wasteland = Sniper Rifle. Crash = AR/SMG/LMG. Okay, what about the ever-fun: RIOT SHIELDS!!!
Riot Shields are funny. When you go around knifing with a Shield on your back, you can go prone and become a virtual turtle. A lot of people are extremely annoyed by people that go turtle mode, Because they have to either: 1. Throw a grenade at you and waste a 'nade, Or 2. Go prone themselves are shoot you in the face. So if wanna have a good time, and piss some people off, go ahead and use the turtle method.
Okay, your secondary. The default class "First Recon" has Marathon, LightWieght, and Ninja. This class ALSO has a .44 Magnum with a Tactical Knife. So if you are a low rank, or recently prestiged, use that class. On the topic of the .44 Mag /w Tac. Knife, lets start the debate... Tactical Knife VS. Combat Knife. (Combat knife is the default Knife)
TACTICAL KNIFE vs. COMBAT KNIFE
Let's clear the air. There's 3 types of knifing attacks.
1. Stab - You stab the enemy, must be extremely close.
2. Slash - You... Slash... Duh, Between stabbing, and lunging distance.
3. Lunge - When you are just out of slashing length, you lunge at the enemy, and stab them.
2. Slash - You... Slash... Duh, Between stabbing, and lunging distance.
3. Lunge - When you are just out of slashing length, you lunge at the enemy, and stab them.
The Combat knife gets all three types of knifes. The Tactical knife only gets the stab. Stabbing takes about 1.20 seconds. Lunging takes 1.5 seconds. And Slashing takes about 1 second. When you stab with a Tactical knife, it takes about .70-.80 seconds depending on how far you are from the enemy. So yeah, the tactical knife really helps. It lets you clear a room of people without making a noise. The Tac. Knife can't be perfect. There is a major flaw with the Tac. knife. The combat knife has a 3ft lunge length. The Tactical knife has a 2ft lunge length. So when you are going into a firefight, you need to get a little closer than usuall.
So you all are thinking... Tactical knife is really good. Let me tell you something.
THERE IS SOMETHING BETTER.
The knife has the range of the Combat knife, and the speed... Oi... the speed is FASTER than the tactical knife.
SUPER KNIFE
Okay, Infinity Ward made a HUGE error. Im not gonna beat around the bush. When you attach Akimbo to the USP .45, your knifing speed is about .60 seconds. This is INCREDIBLY fast. You also can lunge farther than the Tac. Knife... Super speed and distance? Yeah. It's that good. I can actually explain this too. But keep in mind, this will get technical.
When you knife with akimbo USP's, the game knifes the enemy in .60 Seconds. .60 converted into hex code is "0000003c." When you knife with Akimbo USP's, the game does the stab attack, which takes 1.20 seconds with an akimbo weapon. And you might get it by now... 1.20 converted to hex is "0000006c." So Infinity Ward made a tiny mistake in the coding.
SECTION THREE: Tactics
This is the tactic forum. All of these hints are from me, my clan, or submissions by the CoDZone Community. They are in no order, so dont prioritize them.
If i get over 25 tactics, ill make a .txt file with all of them.
This is a work in progress, so dont think it's done.
1. When you are running at someone and if they are facing you and start to shoot- run for the nearest cover, maybe throw a few flashes/stuns and get back out there, ducking and turning making him shoot of target then go in for the kill. (CaptainEaton)
2. When using commando, if you know that an enemy is close to you, go crouched so they dont hear you. (Lemon)
3. If you have a large group of Tangos (hostiles, enemies, sucka's, etc), find a safe way behind the group (it's okay to take your time going around the map) and stab one, hide, stab the next maybe 2, hide. If you have to shoot, go ahead. Die hard Knife-rs such as Lemon would just throw a sword (Inside joke referring to throwing knives) (bbqbeefburgerman)
4. A more effective way to silence your steps with commando is to stand, aim down your gun, and walk. You loose some speed, but are as silent as Ninja Pro. (StKy Clan)
SECTION FOUR: MAP by MAP Tactics - CANCLED
I have decided to cancel the MapXMap section of the guide due to increase in my schedule .
SECTION FIVE: THROWING KNIVES
A TON of content is credit to DAK121212
"Practice makes perfect -
Practice using it on an object or a certain spot on a wall. Just throw it a few times and get the physics of it. Once you can hit the spot without having to aim for a long time, make it increasingly harder. Try doing it while moving sideways, sprinting and turning to the side, and jumping. Just keep practicing until you can hit it more than 90% of the time. It took me only a little while using this method. Remember, keep a cool head. If you get frustrated, you will just mess up more. Stay confident." -DAK121212
"To scope or not to scope -
Everyone likes the throwing knife's speed. You just tap the button and it flies toward your foes. Do NOT just throw it. Take at least a split second to hold the button down and see the crosshair for it. It's not the same as your gun." -DAK121212
"Who gets to go first -
Say you enter a room full of enemies. It is not very likely that they are all facing you, so who should you shoot, knife, and who should you use your throwing knife on? I have found that since the throwing knife is the quickest weapon you have, it should be thrown at whoever is looking your direction." -DAK121212
The reason that this section is copied and pasted from another post is because DAK121212 already has a very excellent guide on Throwing Knives. ALL CREDIT TO DAK121212
